TCOG enjoys being able to bless our Community!
Tigard Church of God thrives on Reaching Our Community for Christ, by inviting everyone from our local community to events and hosting various groups throughout the year. We look forward to helping our neighbors in various ways as well as through the below annually scheduled events.
Community Garden Boxes
We host Community Garden boxes that provide fresh produce for families who otherwise might not be able to purchase them. We would like to increase their number and so are currently seeking individuals or families who might benefit and wish to be included in this unique outreach program. The Garden boxes are conveniently located on our grounds and water is accessible as needed. Those who participate are responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of their own box.
Praiz Dayz
In September of each year we take one weekend just to celebrate the work of His Kingdom and the blessing we all share. We call it “Praiz Days,” and of course have much to share and so have made it a two-day celebration. The first day, usually a Saturday, we send out work teams to complete several preselected work projects, as an outreach into the community. Some examples of projects have been cleaning up a local park… repairs to a home for a widow in need… removing weeds and debris from a local corner house so the city would relax on the family… painting a room for our local Good Neighbor Center… singing to shut-in’s in care facilities… washing cars for free for anyone who came to the car wash… whichever way we can show God’s love and blessings, we enjoy doing it. The community is blessed, and we are blessed in return. Come join us! There is room for everyone to participate in some way.
Trunk ‘R Treat
At the end of October we load our parking lot with decorated car trunks filled with treats for children from around our community to come and “trick or treat”. This is a fun evening of costumes and lots of laughs.
Community Thanksgiving Dinner
It’s become a tradition for the Tigard Church of God family to host a community wide Thanksgiving Dinner on the Saturday prior to Thanksgiving. It’s free to everyone and anyone who would like to come. Some in our community have come to look forward to this meal of thanksgiving, and the number of those able to come and enjoy this special time has increased year after year. It is our prayer and hope that the many who would otherwise go without or be alone, will come and enjoy the food, fun and fellowship as we all share in the much we have and are thankful for. Everyone is welcome! Tell your friends and families to mark the date on their calendars, then come join us. This thanksgiving dinner is not just for us to eat, but is for everyone to share and celebrate.
Christmas Music and Drama Events
During the season and celebration of Christ’s birth we invite those from the community to come and join us as we see the story of His gift to us all, shared in ways that bring the truth of Christmas home to everyone. Our church choir and drama team plans something different and special each year, with volunteers building sets, supplying props, and acting out the wonderful story live on our stage. To handle the hundreds that come each year to enjoy this special time with us, we normally schedule more than one opportunity to enjoy this timeless story. Each year hundreds of people come, and lives have been touched. Consider too that if you enjoy acting or singing, chances are good we have a place for you. Come join us!
Family New Year’s Eve Celebration
We gather in the church the night of New Year’s Eve for an evening of snacks, movies, games and fun. A bit before the Midnight hour we come together for prayer to usher in January of the New Year. This is a fun evening of activity and fellowship, a grand way to say good-bye to the old year and welcome in the new.
Easter / Holy Week
Come join us during this special time of year as we observe the gift of salvation that came through Jesus Christ’s sacrifice and redemption. Palm and Easter Sundays have special worship services planned. Maundy Thursday, between Palm & Easter Sunday, is a special service of scripture reading, communion and foot washing. And TCOG hosts a delicious East Brunch before Easter Sunday Worship Service.
Community Host to Prep-4-Kids
Tigard Church of God is Tigard’s host for PREP4Kids (Portland Released-time Education Program), a non-profit, non-denominational Christian outreach program to children attending public schools in the greater-Portland area. During the school year TCOG helps by hosting a class for middle school students here in the church, during one of their optional class periods. We’re conveniently located close to their school, and pick them up and bring them back to the church for their PREP4Kids program, then return them to their school campus at the close of the period. This provides a good opportunity to minister to the adults within this ministry as well as the kids! For more information about the PREP4Kids program, click here for their website.
Community Host to Boy Scouts of America
Desiring to open our doors to the community around us, we offered our facilities to a local Boy Scout Troop. Every Monday evening they meet here to encourage and train young men to become men of character, which helps prepare them with future goals and throughout life. We are excited to offer this open door to them, and in return they have been a blessing to this us. This group of young men is open to accept all who may wish to participate. We are happy to have them with us.
Private Events
If you are interested in using our facilities for an event, please let us know. Click here for our AnA Form, complete it and turn it into the church office for consideration. We are happy to be of use and service to our community.
